She has also led yoga trips in the mountains, and in recent years has taught Icelandic and international groups on Crete and Corfu in Greece. Elva Rut is a nurse and midwife. She worked as a midwife at Hreiðrið and on the labor ward at Landspítali from 2006 to 2018. In May 2017 she started at Björkin, a midwife-led birth center, where she cares for women through pregnancy, birth and home visits. Elva became interested in yoga while caring for women in labor who had practiced yoga during pregnancy, and was struck by how much yoga helped them during birth. Elva graduated as a Kundalini yoga teacher in 2015, a pregnancy yoga teacher in 2016 and a Yoga Nidra teacher in 2018. She cares deeply about supporting and educating women through pregnancy, birth and the first days after birth, especially in honoring their own choices and wishes. Elva loves encouraging expectant mothers to make time for yoga during pregnancy, because it is a beautiful gift to themselves, their baby and their family.
